City of Rimini
Rimini, besides being one of the Italy's main seaside destinations, with it's wide and equipped beaches, also boasts a hinterland with historic, natural and cultural testimonies. Here are a few location to visit in Valmarecchia and in Valconca :
Santarcangelo di Romagna:
Located ten kilometers from Rimini, the ancient core of the town is located on Mount Jupiter, a tuff hill, overlooking the plain towards Rimini. A complex and mysterious system of caves and tunnels, which can be visited, passes through it: on the surface the Malatesta fortress colorful houses and narrow streets create picturesque corners and there's no shortage of charming eateries in which to stop and drink a glass of Sangiovese, the name is said to belong to this mountain.
Verucchio:
in addition to the beautiful castle and the historic area, here you must visit the archaeological museum, which contains numerous exhibits of the Villanova civilization: the funerary objects found are real windows opening onto a world that no longer exists, with jewels, thrones, and dishes, all perfectly preserved.
Montebello:
the castle of Montebello is famous throughout Italy because it is said that the spirit of Azzurrina, a little girl that lived here and disappeared in mysterious circumstances during the second half of the fourteenth century is still present. Besides this fascinating story, the castle retains a medieval area and Renaissance area and some original furnishings.
San Leo:
the village is perched on a huge outcrop of rock and is accessed from a single, narrow road carved into the stone. Here there are the Cathedral and the church, well worth visiting as also the imposing fortress, where Cagliostro died, you can visit the small cell where he was imprisoned. Other important people have passed through here ,like Dante, that was inspired to imagine his Purgatory and Saint Francis.
San Marino:
the small and independent country is located on Mount Titano, 739 meters above sea level. From here you can enjoy an incomparable view of the Adriatic coast or stroll through the narrow and usually crowded downtown streets where you can go shopping and you visit churches and the government palace.
Montefiore Conca:
one of the most beautiful places in ValConca, it is characterized by gentle hills. It is dominated by a castle dating back to 1300 around which the houses are arranged like the petals
Saludecio:
the scene of important events such as Saluserbe and the 800 Festival, the town should be visited following your instinct and walking along the streets. You will find elegant buildings, churches, and above all colorful paintings on the walls of many buildings.
Mondaino:
a beautiful circular plaza, a real natural theater, characterizes the city and makes it perfect for events and outdoor shows. Here in fact, especially during the summer, major historic festivals like the Palio of the deer take place . There is also the Malatesta fortress and the paleontological museum, which also houses a permanent exhibition of ceramics and pottery typical of Mondaino to visit.
